History
United Way of Yavapai County was founded in 1987 and operated entirely by volunteers for the first five years.
It's very first campaign raised $25,000. Since that time, almost $5 million has been raised to support health and
human services throughout Yavapai County.
United Way is still governed by a committed, all volunteer Board of Directors, many having served as volunteers for
United Way in other parts of the country. They make decisions as to where dollars are allocated for the
30 agencies
and programs funded. Volunteers and staff have developed a Director's Council of Member Agencies to coordinate
administrative and fund raising activities that more effectively. These agencies serve over 80,000 clients annually.
The United Way Volunteer Center of Yavapai County has placed over 2,000 volunteers with county
nonprofits since its foundation in 2001. In July, 2004 United Way added to the services it provides to
the community by establishing and Information and Referral network of Yavapai County, UWIN. In its first
full year it received over 5,000 calls and referred these callers to areas they could get the assistance
they needed.
The United Way has also increased its efforts to raise the public awareness of itself and the agencies
it serves in the local communities by using Loaned Executives and extensive media marketing. With
continued growth and community commitment, the United Way of Yavapai County will meet the growing
needs of our area. We will continue to partner with new companies, agencies and volunteers to meet
those needs by building partnerships to meet these diverse needs through education, development and
volunteerism.
